| Detailed Itinerary | Day 1 Leave Los Angeles or San Francisco this evening for your flight across the Pacific Ocean to New Zealand.
Day 2 In flight over the International Date Line.
Day 3 After arrive in Auckland this morning, pick up your rental car and the rest of the day is at your leisure to relax and check out this charming city.
Day 4 Leaving Auckland head north towards the Coromandel Peninsula, a rugged and beautiful coastal area which is also rich in local history.
Day 5 During a full day tour with a local guide you will be visiting the hidden treasures of the Coromandel coast like Cathedral Cove, a secluded sandy beach with crystal clear water, ancient forests with towering Kauri trees, or Hot Water Beach with its thermal pools underneath the sand where you can dig out your own 'hot-tub'. Your experienced guide will explain the unique flora and fauna of this region.
Day 6 Free time to relax and explore this beautiful corner of New Zealand on your own.
Day 7 This morning drive to Rotorua, the heartland of New Zealand Maori culture, also famous for its geothermal hotspots - there are spouting geysers, boiling mud pools and warm geothermal springs.
Day 8 A half day tour will take you to some of Rotorua’s famous sights, visiting the thermal pools of Whakarewarewa with its beautifully-colored mineral deposits where you can walk on a boardwalk over bubbling mud pools. Enjoy a sheep shearing demonstration and learn about the lifestyle of rural New Zealanders. The afternoon is free for you to explore Rotorua on your own.
Day 9 Return your rental car at the airport in Rotorua this morning and fly to Queenstown on the South Island. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel where accommodations have been booked for the next 3 nights.
Day 10 A full-day coach excursion to Milford Sound awaits you. After passing through some beautiful scenery you arrive in Milford Sound, where a boat awaits to take you on a cruise through the sound (included). Described by Rudyard Kipling as the ‘eighth wonder of the world’, these fjords were carved out during successive ice ages and the grandeur of the towering peaks meeting the ocean is truly awesome. Later, return to Queenstown by road.
Day 11 Today is yours to enjoy Queenstown and the surrounding area at your leisure. There are lots of thrilling and interesting activities available, such as jet-boating, whitewater rafting, horseback riding, mountain-biking etc. as well as tours to the surrounding area (optional).
Day 12 Early this afternoon you will be transferred to the airport for your flight from Queenstown to Auckland, with an onward connection to Los Angeles. Crossing the International Date Line eastbound, you arrive back in the US on the same day. | |
