Detailed Itinerary |
Day
1
Depart for Australia today from your home airport via Los Angeles. Enjoy the ‘Friendly Skies’ service as your United
Airlines jumbo jet flies non-stop over the Pacific Ocean across to
Australia.
Day
3
Crossing the International Date Line, you arrive in Sydney early this
morning. Your vacation package includes a shuttle transfer to your
downtown hotel, and this allows you to get a first glimpse at the city in
the beautiful morning light. Also included for your stay in Sydney is a
half-day guided tour of the city as well as a harbor cruise. These tours
may be taken at your leisure, over the next couple of days.
Days
4 & 5
Sydney richly deserves its reputation as one of the world’s most
spectacular cities, and you have ample time to explore it at your own
pace. Walk through the historic Rocks district, with the former maritime
buildings converted into interesting boutiques and cafes, perhaps have a
seafood meal while sitting out on one of the waterfront restaurants or
spend some time at one of the interesting museums. Many of these portray
the art and heritage of Australia’s native Aboriginal people – a
culture that dates back many thousands of years. Landmarks like the famous
Opera House and the Sydney Harbor Bridge are easily accessible and well
worth the visit.
Day
6
This morning, depart from Sydney’s impressive Central Station for a
train ride to Canberra, the nation’s capital. As you travel through the
scenic Australian countryside, pass by large Australian sheep and cattle
ranches and quaint country towns. After arriving in Canberra, you will be
met and transferred for an afternoon city tour. Amongst the many
highlights here are the Australian War Memorial, the futuristic Parliament
House, the fascinating architecture of Embassies of different countries of
the world, the National Gallery, Lake Burley Griffin and Captain Cook’s
Memorial Fountain. After the tour, check-in at the Capital Parkroyal
Hotel, located in the city center, next to Casino Canberra.
Day
7
After
breakfast you will have some more time to enjoy Canberra, before catching
the mid-morning train to Melbourne. Soak up more of Australia’s
picturesque landscape aboard the modern and comfortable train, before
arriving in Melbourne in the early evening in time to explore the city and
search out a restaurant for dinner.
Days
8 & 9
For the next couple of days, explore Melbourne at your leisure. Known for
its old-world charm, manicured gardens and Victorian architecture,
Melbourne is a lovely city to explore. Visit the Royal Botanic and Fitzroy
Gardens, the colorful Italian quarter of Carlton or the fashionable suburb
of Toorak, full of trendy boutiques and great restaurants. Venture out of
the city to Dandenong’s, a forested area, where you can spot
kookaburras, colorful parrots, lyrebirds or crimson rosellas. Cuddle with
koalas at a nature reserve and watch fairy penguins waddle to their beach
burrows at nightfall at the nearby Phillip Island. For the wine
enthusiast, go vineyard hopping in the beautiful surroundings of the Yarra
Valley. (Should you prefer to make advance reservations for any of these
optional tours, we will be glad to help)
Day
10
Begin
your trip back home to the US today. Fly from Melbourne airport on United
Airlines back to Los Angeles, with an intermediate stop in Auckland, New
Zealand. Crossing the Date Line in the other direction, you will achieve
the strange feat of having arrived in the US earlier than the time you
left Australia! After clearing immigration and customs in Los Angeles,
board your onward flight to your home city. |
