Day 1
Our non-stop
flight to Hong Kong leaves San Francisco late tonight, as we fly across
the Pacific Ocean and the International Date Line, enjoying the award
winning services of Singapore Airlines.
Day 3
Arriving in Hong
Kong early in the morning and clearing customs & immigration, we will
be met by our chauffeur for our private transfer to our hotel. Hong Kong's
new airport is located on an island, and our journey into town involves
crossing the world's longest suspension bridge - a spectacular sight. Our
accommodations have been booked at the legendary Mandarin
Oriental Hotel - not only is this a Hong Kong landmark, but it has also
won several awards as being one of the best hotels in the world! The rest of
the day is free for us to relax or explore Hong Kong on our own.
Day 4
A special
treat awaits us today - after breakfast, we join a small group of people
(max. 12) for a spectacular tour of Hong Kong! We start off by an aerial
tour on a helicopter - an absolutely fabulous experience as we fly over the
city's skyline and the scenic south side of Hong Kong Island. After the
helicopter ride, we will be transferred to Aberdeen Harbor for a leisurely
Chinese lunch on a floating restaurant. Later, we go for a leisurely cruise
along the southern coast of Hong Kong island, with her scenic beaches and
secluded bays. After the boat docks at St. Stephen's Beach in Stanley, our
guides will take us for a walking tour of this interesting area, visiting a
Chinese temple, Murray House (an old colonial building) and of course the
famous Stanley markets.
Day 5
We have the day at leisure to explore this fascinating city on our own!
Day 6
This morning we will be transferred to the airport for our flight to Guilin
in China. Arriving there in the late afternoon, we will be met and transferred to
the Sheraton
Hotel in Guilin.
Day 7
One of the highlights of our trip today will be our scenic cruise on the
Li Jiang River as we enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the majestic
mountains (their peaks often covered with clouds & fog) rising from
the riverbanks. The lush green vegetation and the mist create a magical
atmosphere. The traffic on the river is also fascinating - from one-man
bamboo rafts to large, traditional Chinese junks! We may also stop at fishing villages en route, just as
President Clinton did when he visited the area. We enjoy a Chinese lunch
on board and at the end of the cruise, we arrive in Yangshuo, a small town
well known for its flea market. Later, we will be driven back to our hotel
in Guilin.
Day 8
The morning is free for us to explore Guilin and the surrounding area. In
the afternoon, we will be taken to Guilin Airport for our
flight back to Hong Kong, where we can transfer to our
flight back to the US on Singapore Airlines. Crossing the international
dateline again we arrive back in San Francisco on the same day.
